Growth is optional

John C Maxwell wrote "Change is inevitable. Growth is optional."

If you consider a baby or a child, it may seem impossible to consider that growth is merely optional. But if you look at human development as a whole, Erikson determined that a later stage is generativity vs stagnation. This suggests that although your world may continue to change, due to forces outside of your control, you yourself may not evolve.
